Roland Darjes - ein deutscher Kuenstler in Shanghai. Der Sohn einer deutschen Schauspielerin und eines amerikanischen Regisseurs hat sich von früh auf mit Kunst beschäftigt. In Deutschland und den USA besuchte er Schulen mit dem Schwerpunkt Kunst und studierte anschliessend Kommunikationsdesign in Hamburg, Deutschland. Er arbeitet mit den neuen Medien und kreiert Skulpturen und Installationen. Nach Aufenthalten in Europa, den USA und Argentinien führte ihn seine Faszination für fremde Kulturen und Sprachen vor 4 Jahren nach China. Seitdem versucht er der überwältigenden Inspiration von Shanghai’s Lichterwelt in Skulpturen und Lichtinstallationen Gestalt zu geben. Er ist ein Photograph auf der Suche nach dem besonderen, flüchtigen Augenblick in den Strassen dieser tausendfältigen Riesenstadt und benutzt diese Bilder als Inspiration für seine Kunstwerke. Er sucht nach neuen Techniken und Materialien um den Blickwinkel des Fremden auf diese explodierende chinesische Welt auszudrücken. Roland Darjes – a German artist living and working in Shanghai. The son of a German actress and an American opera director, Roland grew up in a world of visual arts. He visited art-focusing high-schools in Germany and the United States before studying “Communication Arts” and “Interactive Media” in Hamburg, Germany. Based on his interest for the new media in the field of art he works in sculpture and installations. After living in Europe, the States and Argentina his fascination for other cultures and languages brought Roland four years ago to China, where he since has integrated the overwhelming inspiration of Shanghai’s city lights into his art using the means of light sculpture. As a passionate photographer he is constantly on the lookout for spectacular impressions in the streets of Shanghai, using this photo-material as inspiration for his installments. He is ever on the search for new material and technics with which he - as a foreigner - can present his impressions of the fascinating world of 21st century China.
